Huge News: 52 Percent of Americans Now Support Legalizing Marijuana

"For the first time
in more than four decades of polling on the issue,"
reports the Pew Research Center
, "a majority of Americans favor
legalizing the use of marijuana. A national survey finds that 52%
say that the use of marijuana should be made legal while 45% say it
should not."

Here's the demographic breakdown:

The survey by the Pew Research Center, conducted March 13-17
among 1,501 adults, finds that young people are the most supportive
of marijuana legalization. Fully 65% of Millennials –born since
1980 and now between 18 and 32 – favor legalizing the use of
marijuana, up from just 36% in 2008. Yet there also has been a
striking change in long-term attitudes among older generations,
particularly Baby Boomers.

Half (50%) of Boomers now favor legalizing marijuana, among the
highest percentages ever. In 1978, 47% of Boomers favored
legalizing marijuana, but support plummeted during the 1980s,
reaching a low of 17% in 1990. Since 1994, however, the percentage
of Boomers favoring marijuana legalization has doubled, from 24% to
50%.

Generation X, born between 1965 and 1980, came of age in the
1990s when there was widespread opposition to legalizing marijuana.
Support for marijuana legalization among Gen X also has risen
dramatically – from just 28% in 1994 to 42% a decade later and 54%
currently.

The Silent Generation continues to be less supportive of
marijuana legalization than younger age cohorts. But the percentage
of Silents who favor legalization has nearly doubled –from 17% to
32% – since 2002.

Artem Smao, 14, Donates His Own Money To Unemployed Stranger (VIDEO)

Last month, 14-year-old Artem Smao was selling newspaper subscriptions to fundraise a trip to Tahoe, a popular West Coast ski destination. In a twist of events, the California teen ended up donating all of his money to a complete stranger when he knocked on Robynn Fried's front door.

Fried, a Lodi resident, told CBS News in Sacramento that she was unemployed at the time and two weeks away from being homeless when Smao approached her for a donation. When she explained that she could not afford to, the teen did not hesitate to hand over his envelope full of cash.

"That's just something you don't expect out of kids these days," Fried told the Lodi News-Sentinal. "He was trying to win a trip to Tahoe, so when you're trying to earn something, it's really unbelievable to have that person turn around and offer what they're trying to earn."

Global Financial Stress Is Starting To Grow, And That's Bad News For Stocks

Global financial stress, a coincident indicator for global stock prices, is flaring up again in the wake of the crisis in Cyprus. The blue line on the chart below shows BofA Merrill Lynch's Global Financial Stress Index turned upside down to illustrate how it correlates with global equities, proxied by the MSCI All Country World Index (the red line). While global equities have started to roll over a bit, global financial stress has spiked upward pretty forcefully in the past few weeks. BAML Global Financial Stress Index versus MSCI All Country World Index The chart below offers a look at the sub-components underlying BAML's index as of Friday, March 22. As one might expect, most of the biggest changes in financial stress recently have been driven by Europe-related factors. "The Cyprus bailout story caused most measures to increase last week. In fact, only 5 measures registered a decrease in stress. Unsurprisingly, 4 of these were non-European," write BAML analysts in a note to clients.
